Question 1

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

Accepted Answer

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing website content for AI-powered search engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Unlike traditional SEO which optimizes for ranking in search results lists, GEO optimizes for being quoted, referenced, or recommended by AI assistants.

Question 2

How is GEO different from SEO?

Accepted Answer

SEO optimizes for keyword rankings and backlinks. GEO optimizes for AI citability, entity recognition, brand authority across platforms, and structured data that AI systems can parse and extract.

Question 3

How do I check if AI crawlers can access my site?

Accepted Answer

Use a GEO audit tool to check your robots.txt for 14+ AI crawlers including GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended. The tool will show which crawlers are allowed, blocked, or not mentioned.

Question 4

What is a good GEO score?

Accepted Answer

GEO scores range from 0-100. A score of 75+ is considered strong. Scores are based on citability, brand authority, content quality, technical foundations, structured data, and platform optimization.
